Copy and move project items

 


This topic explains how to copy and move project items. You might want to copy project items for a variety of reasons—for example, you might make a copy of a query and then change the query criteria slightly. If you are organizing your project, you might need to move items into a new folder.

Copy a project item

To copy a project item, select the item you want to copy and then do one of the following:

  • Use the Copy and Paste commands—on the Home tab, in the Clipboard group, click Copy (⌘+C), then select the new folder location and then click Paste (⌘+V).

  • 'Drag and drop' to make a copy of a project item in another folder—find the item you want to copy, and then find the folder you want to copy it to. Drag the item to the folder, pressing the ⌘key when you drop the item.

NOTE  You can convert certain types of project items by copying them into a different system folder. For example,.if you copy a document and paste it into the Memos folder, it is converted into a memo.

Move a project item

You can move a project item, to a new location within the same system folder hierarchy. For example, you can move a document source into a new folder location within the internal sources folder, or move a node into a new folder within the Nodes folder.

To move a project item to another folder, select the item you want to move and then do one of the following:

  • 'Drag and drop' the item into a new folder

  • Use the Copy and Move Here commands—on the menu bar, choose Edit > Copy (⌘+C), then select the new folder location and (holding down the Option key) click Move Here (⌘+OPTION+V).
